Advocacy

Advocacy

what we do

Strong policy and advocacy work is needed in the region to move towards a fair and equitable economic transition in the region. ACLC impacts policy through state and federal legislation, comment submissions to agency rulemaking, and by setting new precedents in case law.  We collaborate closely with local, regional, and national organizations.

The change we seek:

Our current policy platforms

After a devastating flood affected our region and our workplace in 2022, in partnership with nearly 40 organizations in the Appalachian region, we developed and endorse a federal policy platform to build flood resilience and improve disaster recovery. Read the full platform here.

zombiemines

There are too many mines in Kentucky and the Central Appalachian region that are no longer producing coal nor being reclaimed expediently. Read our policy platform to learn more about the federal reforms we believe will help address these issues. Learn more about the issue at www.zombiemines.org.

PA Fayette County

Thousands of coal miners disabled by black lung disease and their families rely on federal black lung benefits. However, black lung benefits have not kept pace with the cost of living. Community leaders, representing thousands of families across Appalachia, are asking Congress to increase miner benefit levels. Learn more here.
