On June 25, Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center (ACLC), Kentucky Conservation Committee, and Kentucky Waterways Alliance submitted recommendations to the state’s newly-formed Disaster Prevention & Resiliency Task Force, outlining key priorities for flood resilience planning and infrastructure.
In the letter, the organizations urged the Task Force to center the experiences and knowledge of frontline communities. Recommendations include: establishing local early warning systems, better coordination of property buyouts to avoid destabilizing communities, development of Kentucky’s local disaster workforce, post-flood river management that mitigates future flooding, and collaboration with experts in Kentucky’s unique topology and hydrology.
