A tax-smart way to support our work while satisfying your Required Minimum Distribution
If you’re 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to ACLC. This gift counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) but isn’t included in your taxable income—potentially lowering your tax bill while making a meaningful impact on coalfield communities.
An IRA QCD is one of the most tax-efficient ways for retirees to support charitable work, and it’s simpler than you might think.
💰 Benefits of an IRA QCD
- Satisfy your RMD: Your gift counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution
- Reduce taxable income: The distribution isn’t included in your adjusted gross income
- Lower tax burden: Potentially reduce taxes on Social Security and Medicare premiums
- Give up to $105,000 per year: (2024 limit, indexed for inflation)
- No itemization needed: Get tax benefits even if you don’t itemize deductions
✓ Are You Eligible?
You can make an IRA QCD if you meet these requirements:
- You’re 70½ years old or older
- The funds come directly from a traditional IRA (not a 401(k) or other retirement account)
- The gift is made payable directly to ACLC (not to you first)
- You don’t receive goods or services in return for your gift
